The Artist Abilities vs. Their Art Career Goals
When I started my “art career” my goal was to be a “gallery artist”, whatever that meant? At the time, it was pointed out to me by a well known art consultant, that I did not have the education, pedigree or experience to warrant such a goal! Somewhat crushed, but not dismayed, we both set out a plan to achieve the “ultimate” goal through a program by which I would develop my resume’, while trying to sell my art in the corporate art market. I believed in myself and my artistic abilities and all I needed was a plan to follow to make this happen.
What exactly do you want to achieve with your art? Is this an endeavor that will be a career? Is this a hobby or a part time for you? Is your work good enough for galleries or do you want to sell at festivals or art fairs? Your art should realistically match your goals. If it doesn’t, maybe it is a matter of more education, gaining more experience or developing your resume further.
Someone within the art business can help you evaluate your abilities and goals, in order to prescribe a course of action that eventually gets you to where you want to be. Art Marketing Strategies can help the artist to that end.
